Where should visitors stay for an overnight Brisbane stop before collecting a hire car?

We land from Sydney, have dinner with a friend and collect a city rental car the next morning.

Plot the airport arrival, dinner venue and actual rental branch before choosing a hotel. South Bank may be pleasant, but a CBD base can shorten the morning pickup.
