Book NowAbout Strauss
Tucked away at the end of an Elizabeth Street alleyway, Strauss offers an unhurried CBD escape with dialled-in espresso and tight kitchen craft. Regulars duck down the brick corridor to sidestep city noise, claiming stools at the bar or timber tables inside. Sourdough comes stacked with juicy chicken, creamy labneh, and a poached egg, while morning orders lean toward double-smoked ham and aged cheddar omelettes or toasted bagels split with fried egg and halloumi. Glasses of chilled water arrive at your table the moment you sit down, setting a steady pace over silky flat whites and fresh batch brews.
- Laneway Retreat: Tucked into an Elizabeth Street alcove without street signage, offering a quiet hideaway from CBD traffic.
- Focused Breakfast Menu: Carefully curated staples including double-smoked ham omelettes, halloumi bagels, and sourdough with labneh.
- Thoughtful Table Hospitality: Attentive sit-down hospitality with instant table water and shared dishes split neatly across plates.

A welcoming, slowed-pace atmosphere and cozy vintage furniture that provide a tranquil escape from noisy and crowded urban streets.
Lovely atmosphere, that is away from the hub-hub of city streets. Nice and relaxed for someone like myself that isn't big on loud/crowded spaces.
Ainslie Collins Artisan Sourdough & Breakfast Staples
Meticulously prepared breakfast staples, featuring perfectly cooked poached eggs, fresh avocado, and chewy artisan toast.
The rye bread had a crunchy crust while having a fluffy inside. The combination of flavours were exceptional - from the fresh avocado and marinated feta drizzled with lemon, it was very pleasing on the tongue.
Alan Dang Attentive Table Hospitality

Spotting the Laneway Entrance
Strauss is tucked at the end of an alley off Elizabeth Street without prominent street-facing signage, making it easy to bypass if you are not watching closely for the laneway entrance.
Arrive Early for Table Seating
Indoor space is limited and fills quickly with CBD workers and regulars, so plan to arrive early if you require a full table rather than counter or stool seating.
