About Wine & Larder

Tucked into an Ashgrove laneway, this moody European-leaning bistro delivers city-calibre cellar depth and inventive cooking without the CBD trek. Low-lit and acoustically forgiving, the room sets an unhurried rhythm for date nights and easy catch-ups over house focaccia with whipped kombu butter. The kitchen runs a tight, sharp menu—seared scallops dressed in tom kha foam alongside goat massaman croquettes and blistered potatoes. Wine takes centre stage under owner-sommelier Mark, who pours generous table tasters of crisp Clare Valley Riesling or drafts upper-tier cellared bottles via Coravin before you commit. The meal wraps nicely around a curated cheese board loaded with creamy brie, Tasmanian pinot, and honeycomb.

  • Inventive Small Plates: A tight, technique-driven menu featuring seared scallops with tom kha foam, goat massaman croquettes, and house focaccia with whipped kombu butter.
  • Coravin Pours & Guided Tastings: Owner-sommelier Mark guides an expansive cellar, offering pre-pour table tastes and Coravin access to premium pours by the glass.
  • Intimate Laneway Atmosphere: A dim, low-noise laneway haven tailored for effortless table conversation and unhurried date nights.

  • Elevated Suburban Bistro Fare

A thoughtful small-plate menu pairs exceptionally with curated wines, offering a full dining experience close to home.

For a small suburban bistro, it rates well above anywhere else we've eaten for a very long time.

  • Coravin Pours and Rare Cellar Tastings

Guests explore cellar selections and premium bottles by the glass via Coravin technology before committing.

Seek something out under 'coravin' (an opportunity to try an upper tier wine by the glass that's normally only available by the bottle).

  • Approachable Sommelier-Led Discovery

Knowledgeable sommeliers guide guests through diverse regions and offer complimentary pre-decision tastings.

They were more than happy to offer a few tasters of different wines before we made our decision.

Before you head over

Practical booking, seating, and ordering guidance for your visit to Wine & Larder.
