About Marlowe Restaurant

South Brisbane history meets sharp modern technique inside Marlowe's restored Art Deco rooms. The mood feels like dining in the intimate salon of an elegant private home—unhurried, warm, and distinctly personal. Tables routinely order the coral trout Wellington wrapped in seaweed puff pastry, sauced at the table with chive butter and caviar. Others lean into crab brioche, crispy bug tails, or savory duck pie beside rich bone marrow mash. Regulars know to ask their server for a quick tour through the heritage apartment levels between courses. Upstairs, the open-air bar serves pre-dinner drinks, while the cellar stays almost entirely Australian—sparing a solitary exception for genuine Champagne.

  • Heritage Apartment Setting: Multi-level dining set in a restored Art Deco apartment building, featuring preserved period rooms and staff-led architectural tours.
  • Coral Trout Wellington: A reimagined pastry classic wrapping fresh reef fish in seaweed and puff pastry, finished with chive butter and caviar.
  • All-Australian Cellar: An extensive wine list dedicated to Australian producers, retaining a single cheeky exemption for authentic Champagne.
  • Elevated Bistro Classics: Seafood-forward bistro plates spotlighting curried crab on buttery brioche, crispy bug tails, and savory duck pie.

Why Diners Choose Marlowe

Discover why Marlowe stands out for heritage charm, signature culinary craft, and memorable shared gatherings.

  • Preserved Art Deco Heritage & Building Tours

Housed across two levels of a converted Art Deco apartment building, Marlowe preserves historic domestic rooms and architectural charm while welcoming diners for guided tours led by passionate staff.

The history of the building is fascinating and we jumped at the chance when Lucas, our exceptional waiter, offered to give us the full tour of the building.

  • Reinvented Coral Trout Wellington

A signature centerpiece of the menu, Chef Ollie's savory pastry adaptation encases pristine coral trout in seaweed and crisp pastry, completed with a rich chive and caviar butter sauce.

The standout of the night was clearly the Coral Trout Wellington, which was a well executed, innovative take on the classic beef wellington done superbly with a moreish chive butter sauce and caviar.

Cozy partitioned booths and quiet alcoves provide an intimate, romantic sanctuary for anniversaries, birthdays, and relationship milestones.

  • Seamless Group Dining & Shared Chef Menus

Generous chef selections and share-style multi-course menus allow extended families and group parties to celebrate seamlessly in semi-private quarters.

We opted to share a chefs selection of dishes around the table and this was a really smart option for a large group. We tried an extensive range of dishes and all of them were executed perfectly!
