About Mu'ooz

Dine on rich Eritrean stews scooped with tangy enjera in a leafy courtyard, all while directly backing a social enterprise run by African refugee women. Tucked away in West End, this not-for-profit dining room pours its revenue into employment and hospitality training. Out back, tables sit beneath a central jasmine tree—away from street noise, built for unhurried communal feasts. Regulars bypass cutlery altogether, tearing off rounds of spongy flatbread to pinch up slow-cooked zighni, chicken curries, and spiced lentils from wide platters. For the finish, dessert orders lean toward warm busbusa, a crumbly semolina cake served with berry coulis beside vanilla ice cream.

  • Communal Feasting: Wide platters of spiced meats, lentils, and rich stews meant for sharing by hand with tearable rolls of spongy enjera flatbread.
  • Purpose-Driven Dining: Operates as a not-for-profit enterprise offering hospitality training and stable employment to African refugee women.
  • Courtyard Garden: A quiet back dining space sheltered beneath a jasmine tree, offering an unhurried, private setting for long meals.

Why Choose Mu'ooz

Discover Brisbane's authentic Eritrean social enterprise restaurant where traditional communal dining meets meaningful community support.

  • Communal Dining with Traditional Enjera

Diners share communal platters topped with traditional stews like Zighni and Dergo, scooping up rich gravies by hand using soft, house-made enjera.

All mains come with enjera, a soft, spongy and quite neutral flatbread used to scoop everything up. It’s a fun, hands-on way to eat

  • Shared Platters Built for Gathering

Generous tasting platters encourage friends and groups to sample diverse spiced curries together from a single plate at an accessible price.

I love that they sell sharing platters for an amazing price, encouraging everyone to eat from the same place.

A secluded outdoor garden area beneath a central jasmine tree provides a tranquil escape from bustling street traffic.

There is also a Jasmine tree in the center of their restaurant, which is a pleasure to sit under.

Before you head over

Practical dining advice for sharing traditional Eritrean dishes and supporting Mu'ooz's mission

  • Allow Time for an Unhurried Visit

Meals are made to order and the venue operates as a training ground for refugee staff, so service can take time. Plan for an unhurried, relaxed meal rather than quick dining.

  • Embrace Eating by Hand

Communal dining with spongy enjera flatbread is designed to be eaten by hand. A washroom is located just left of the courtyard entrance to freshen up before and after eating.

  • Request Courtyard Garden Seating

For the most peaceful setting, ask to sit out in the leafy outdoor courtyard garden under the central jasmine tree, away from passing street foot traffic.
